When Samantha reached out last summer looking to hire me for her surprise proposal in Yosemite, it was an easy answer: yes! Not only did the dates align perfectly with my schedule, but Sam mentioned that her and her girlfriend, Dawn, loved hiking and this would be their first visit to Yosemite. If you know me, you probably are very aware that one of my favorite “hobbies” is showing Yosemite newbies all the best sights and getting to share that incredible magic she brings all year round. Really though, any chance I get to explore this gorgeous park, especially first timers, is almost like seeing it for the first time myself; add in getting to photograph couples for milestones like this…the absolute best!
As Sam and I planned the logistics for her surprise proposal in Yosemite, we went back and forth between a few different locations but ultimately ended up at Glacier Point. Glacier Point is always a solid choice (I mean, that view) and is best at sunrise for lighting purposes and if you are trying to avoid crowds as much as is possible in a national park as popular as Yosemite. Once we had our time and meeting point set, the day finally arrived and I went about arriving to our pre-designated spot and pretended to read a book as Sam and Dawn walked up, admiring the slowly rising summer sun. As Samantha turned toward Dawn and started to propose, I was ready to go and photographing every second of that beautiful moment. Dawn said “yes” and the pair celebrated the culmination of five years of dating as fiances!
After Sam and Dawn spent a few minutes soaking in the joy and energy of the big moment, I took them to all my favorite spots around Glacier Point, taking tons of photos along the way. The sun continued to rise around us and drenched the scenery in a golden glow—-much like how we were all feeling that morning! As Taylor Swift would say, “it’s golden, like daylight” (which, as TS fans themselves, Samantha and Dawn will probably appreciate that reference). We ended their engagement session with the newly minted fiances taking selfies and Dawn showing off her gorgeous new ring. Truly a perfect morning with two incredible humans!
