Kendra + Ian’s Mount Laguna Engagement Session

Kendra and Ian reached out to me this past fall about doing their engagement photos somewhere near San Diego after they saw a session I had done for their friends Patrick and Ivan at Torrey Pines. Once we started planning, we were torn between somewhere closer to Julian, CA or Mount Laguna. Having never shot in either location, I did some initial research and decided that Mount Laguna would be pretty epic. Kendra and I messaged in the days leading up to their session to show me her and Ian’s outfits they chose and aside from loving the look they were going for, I knew it would work well for the location we were going to be shooting.
On the day of their session, it was a cold December day (and probably a good warning to what our winter would feel like this year). We started at a gorgeous meadow surrounded by trees and some really cool rock formations where Ian and Kendra climbed and played together after running around the meadow. After some more fun antics like piggy back rides for both of them and lots of spinning around, they relaxed together in the meadow and kept each other warm before we ultimately headed out to our final location.
We arrived at our final location just as the sun was starting to make its appearance to a previously very moody, gray sky. As it peeked through the clouds, the light began to dance around the mountains and give us an incredible show from every angle we looked. We hopped along some rocks, taking in the views, as Kendra and Ian snuggled up as the temperature continued to dip with the sun. After getting some more shots of Kendra’s gorgeous ring and exploring the area, we finished their session with one final set of photos along the rocks we started on but this time, everything was glowing orange—-it was absolutely stunning! I am not sure I have seen a sunset quite like this one and it truly blew us all away. Once we were done, I decided I needed to come back as soon as possible and explore even more of this incredible place (which we are doing very soon for a family camping trip)!
