Jessica + Stephen’s Motorcycle Engagement Session in Joshua Tree

Joshua Tree National Park | Joshua Tree, CA | Summit and Sur Photography

Joshua Tree National Park is one of those weird, wonderful, places that really never get old. Joshua Tree is practically in my backyard (considering how much driving I do for this job, what's an hour and forty-five minute drive?) and is a place I regularly bring family members, friends, and of course, clients. I love the way the sun rises and sets amongst the giant boulders and the plentiful Joshua Trees in the most glowing, gorgeous way. Of course, when Jessica and Stevie reached out about having their engagement session here, there was only one answer: YES!

When Jessica and Stevie reached out to me, they already had a vision of what they wanted for their engagement session, they just needed to find someone to execute it. They talked about wanting to do their session in Joshua Tree while incorporating both their pup, Celine, and Stevie's motorcycle that he built himself. I immediately knew these two were going to be awesome people with a vision like that and was thrilled when we were able to get to planning.

Because they wanted to include Celine, we had to make sure we picked one of Joshua Tree's dog-approved locations (our furry friends are allowed only in a few, small parts of the park) and a place that would work well with Stevie's motorcycle. We put in for a permit and got everything squared away for what would be their sunrise engagement session in Joshua Tree. As a side note, it is super important to apply and pay for a permit in any location that requires them for sessions but especially Joshua Tree. If you are caught without one, you face a fine of $500! But, don't worry---I am quite the expert at putting in for permits and making sure we are on the up and up for your session.

Once the day arrived for their session, we met up at sunrise in the designated parking lot. It was a bit chilly for an April morning and considering the wake-up call, I brought everyone some warm coffees to sip as we started our session. However, once we got started, we soon forgot how cold we were because, well, these two brought the HEAT!

We started their session with Stevie's motorcycle and had Jessica hop on the back. We had a ton of fun playing with poses here and getting them relaxed was pretty easy because again, super cool, awesome people. After, we made sure to give Celine her time to shine and had her join in the photos for a bit with her parents. She was so perfectly behaved and loved sharing the spotlight with her humans.

Tip: If you are a having a session with your fur baby, bring a friend to help out so you don't have to stress about your pup/cat/etc. Jessica and Stevie brought their friend along to help with Celine and it made things so much easier without worrying about what she could get into and where she was allowed to be vs. not allowed.

Jessica switched outfits half way through the session to a slightly more relaxed look and we had some fun with a couple cans of beer and some festival vibes going on. As the sun rose higher in the sky, we began to wrap up their session but not before grabbing a couple more photos with Celine and couple more steamy poses and prompts. It was an incredibly beautiful, fun morning in Joshua Tree and truly, the epitome of coolness.
