Capree + Seamus Convict Lake Engagement Session

Winter Engagement Session // Mammoth Lakes Engagement Photographer
Want to know one of my biggest internal struggles as a Mammoth Lakes photographer? Deciding whether I like summer or winter better! Sure, summer has gorgeous greens and warm weather; winter, however, has SNOW. And as a Florida native, snow will always be exciting to me, no matter how old I get. So when Capree and Seamus reached out about doing their engagement session at Convict Lake in December, I already knew it was going to be amazing. Fast forward to the day of their session and I was 100 percent correct: absolutely awesome.
We started with some casual outfits at the beach side of Convict Lake where we had the entire lake to ourselves (if you know the area, you know this doesn’t happen in the summer months). Put that in the “pro’s” column for getting out to the area in winter for your session or elopement! Capree and Seamus played along the beach, having fun just goofing around and cuddling up to stay warm. After a bit, they changed outfits and we hit the other side of the lake for a different perspective. The beautiful thing about sessions like this is that this location wasn’t a random choice: it was entirely intentional. The two of them often spend time up in Mammoth Lakes and at Convict Lake and knew immediately that this was the perfect spot for their engagement session. Seeing it all play out between both outfits and spots around the lake was a reminder to find what speaks to you as a couple because it makes it so much more special.
After the sun started to make its descent, we drove across the highway to the geological hot springs area where we took in the incredible view of the Eastern Sierra mountains and the gorgeous landscape below us. This was a spot I had wanted to photograph for a long time and it was so exciting to get to show it off to Capree and Seamus during their session. Once blue hour hit, I broke out my favorite lanterns and we had fun with those and then some slow-shutter speed photos to add to it all. These two made their session look fun, easy, and relaxing because well, it simply was all those things. My sessions are rooted in having a great time because as long as that happens, I know I will get great photos that you’ll enjoy forever.
